Pork Pies and Pot Holes East Midlands CiCLE Challenge
23rd June 2008

I've just about recovered from the 100km Pork Pies and Pot Holes that ride I did last weekend. It was a superb route and I had a thoroughly enjoyable day. The organisation was excellent and my thanks to everyone who sponsored me for local rotary Charities. You'll notice from the results that I did take rather a long time; I do hope that this will encourage other people to have a go at this event next year - if you like cycling and like a challenge - you really will enjoy yourself, so get your entry in for next year as soon as you see it advertised, and get training!

My thanks to Denis Watt from Melton Mowbray Rotary Club for the following Report:

This event was well supported by enthusiast cyclists, and families from far and wide. With the 180km ride setting off at 9:30, followed by the 100km at 10:00 and the family 30km at 10:30.

The routes mainly follow the famous International CiCLE Classic race with both on and off road sections. Which allows enthusiastic cyclists and the less energetic the opportunity, at their own pace, to experience the unique terrain that makes the International CiCLE Classic race so popular within Europe.

Many families as well as individuals entered the 30km cycle ride, and with the sun shining really enjoyed the whole event: Starting with the spectacular Vintage Cycles, and the free refreshments available for all entrants to the leisurely bike ride on a lazy summers day. There were three generations of one family who took part, setting a new way to celebrate Fathers Day.

Over £1,500 was raised for local Rotary Charities. The event has become so popular and successful that it is now firmly in Melton Mowbray Rotary Clubs annual calendar.
Well done to all those who took part, and a big thank you for raising so much money for local Rotary Charities.
