Waterloo Cottage Farm and farm shop provides food nutritionally good for you, meat bred to the highest ethical standards, containing no antibiotics, avoiding the use of chemicals wherever possible. The end products taste great. Angus & Kirsty and all at Waterloo Cottage Farm, work with others like them, encouraging the local community to join in with them on their journey.

If not grown on their farm then the meat is sourced from liked minded local farmers using the same animal husbandry methods.

All cattle and sheep are pasture fed:
• The fold of Highland cattle, now 61, have been chosen for their ability to graze rough ground and withstand winters outside. Whilst the fold has grown, cattle have been sourced from other ethically minded farmers
• The sheep are Cllanwenog’s, Berrichon de Cher and a blue faced Leicester ram.

The pigs are truly free range and allowed to display their natural habits, all their lives. The piglets are weaned from their mothers when the sows feel it is time. They rout and run in areas of pasture and grow slowly. They partner with two other pig breeders who have the same ethos in animal husbandry.

All the animals grown on the farm are butchered and sold in the farm shop. The shop sells perfectly matured meat, a growing range of ready meals; great deli products from corned beef to charcuterie are all made on site. There is 100% traceability of all products.

There is a no waste policy; frozen ready meals provide another end product for meat, vegetables and other produce not sold in the shop. Where appropriate other waste is fed to the pigs.

As Angus and Kirsty understand more about the land, animals and how the human body responds to food their methods change. Plants are grown for their medicinal qualities both for humans and animals, reducing the need for chemicals. They experiment with growing other types of food to make sure their bodies receive the right nutrients.

Waterloo Cottage believes that their business model allows the consumer to reconnect with how their food is grown. Working with school children to eat and cook good local food, educating with farm days; engaging the future customers. The shop runs butchery and cooking sessions, 'Healthy, clean, lean' workshops and open farm days. All are designed to encourage a healthy diet and enjoyment in great tasting food.

The Community Garden, behind the shop, is now self sufficient and run by volunteers. They are planning new disabled raised beds and disabled access in the new year following the repeat visits of adults with special learning needs. The gardeners have negotiated the sale of spare fruit and vegetables to the Canvas Café, situated beside the garden. The café opened this October and will use Waterloo Cottage products, promoting healthy, local food.
