From 11am, guests will have the chance to take part in skills-based activities and games led by Margate First Team Assistant Manager, Matt Longhurst, and defender, Kai Garande. Meanwhile, guests and Margate FC fans will be able to meet some of the First and Women’s team players and learn more about the club’s community scheme supporting people across Thanet.
The team will also be offering free trials for children to train with the Margate Youth team, providing an opportunity to kick start football careers for young and upcoming talent.
Founded in 2015, Margate FC’s Community Trust is a registered charity that harnesses the power of football to provide practical support for young people, families, older residents and vulnerable groups across the Thanet community. Its work includes improving access to sporting facilities and activities, supporting physical and mental wellbeing, and offering family, education, employment and social support.
Fran Donovan, Centre Director at Westwood Cross, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Margate FC and its Community Trust to Westwood Cross for what promises to be a brilliant day of football-themed fun for our guests.
“Community is at the heart of Westwood Cross, so it’s fantastic to support an organisation that does such important work across Thanet - using football to bring people together, encourage active lifestyles and create opportunities for young people. We hope families and football fans alike will come along, get involved and enjoy everything taking place on the day.”
Pat Sutcliffe, the Community Trust Manager for Margate FC said, “We’re proud to return Margate FC’s Community Trust to Westwood Cross and connect with local families in such an engaging and accessible way.
“Football has a unique ability to inspire, unite and support people of all ages, and this event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work we do across Thanet while encouraging more young people to get involved in the game.”
Adding to the football festivities, Hotel Chocolat, located near Westwood Cross’s iconic Viking Ship, will host an in-store Panini Sticker Swap Shop from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday 27 June. Football fans can trade FIFA World Cup stickers with friends to help complete their collections, while enjoying samples from Hotel Chocolat’s luxury chocolates and ice creams.
