  • Monday 4th July, 10:00am - Until Friday 8th July, 4:00pm
Sing, speak, rap and play music that matters to you on this 5 day project in July with Manchester collective Honeyfeet. Aimed at musicians aged 16-21 interested in pursuing a music career, you’ll work together to create new tunes, record them in a studio and learn more about the music industry. The music created will be shaped by what you’re passionate about. This could be political, relating to social or climate justice, something more personal, or anything else! This will be a supportive, respectful and creative environment for you to explore how your personal experiences, opinions and emotions can translate into your music. The week will also involve music industry insights from Honeyfeet, with a focus on sustainable careers and artist wellbeing.

About Honeyfeet

Honeyfeet have spent the past 10 years tearing around festival stages and theatres, clubs and fields, melting down blues and pop, jazz and disco, pushing air molecules around with instruments and making friends in the process. Jazz? Yes, some of that! Folk? Stick that in there! Hip-hop? I thought you’d never ask!

Someone once called it Folk-Hop and Barrelhouse-pop, and that’s just vague enough to make sense. At the centre of the storm is Rioghnach Connolly (Afro Celt Sound System, The Breath, Band of Burns) – an irrepressible stage presence described by the Guardian as “a remarkable singer and flautist who…can ease from Irish traditional influences to soul”.

The band’s 2018 album Orange Whip was 6 Music’s Album of the Day upon release in 2018, with Clash magazine calling it a “righteous blast of working-class energy”. Opener and lead single ‘Sinner’ (below) captures the album’s essence, with Rioghnach’s powerhouse vocals trading blows with a swaggering brass section while sultry guitars slink up and down with the playful menace of a cartoon cat burglar.
