On Thursday 6th August from 12pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Halecroft Grange will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Hale Road home can look forward to Caribbean-inspired street food, including jerk chicken, fish, rice and peas and potatoes. The dishes have been chosen to celebrate the home’s diverse community and will be prepared using seasonal ingredients sourced from within a 50-mile radius.
Budding gardeners can also get stuck into an herb potting session, led by the home’s lifestyle team, using recyclable pots and repurposed coffee grounds. Guests will also be able to take part in fruit blending, sample freshly prepared strawberries, and get crafty making bunting from repurposed clothing.
In the lead-up to the event, residents will be heading out to pick locally grown strawberries, which will be served at the event.
Resident Maureen Foley, said: “I’m really looking forward to the food festival. Some of my happiest childhood memories are of sitting around the table with my family and sharing a home-cooked meal. Food has always had a lovely way of bringing people together, so it will be wonderful to welcome people from the local community and enjoy the day with them.”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
