Halloween lurks around the corner.

I couldn’t help but notice rather a lot of spooky costumes, pumpkins and Halloween merchandise filling up the shelves of shops throughout Malvern. With memories of lazy summer evenings still fresh in my thoughts, the air still warm from the last of the summer sunshine; it feels far too early to be thinking of Halloween and the cold dark nights that will soon be upon us.

If you like to celebrate Halloween, do the whole costume thing and spend time carving out your pumpkins, here are a few interesting facts:-

  • October 31st is thought to be one of the scariest nights of the year.
  • Ghosts, spirits, witches and fairies are thought to be especially active.
  • The colours orange and black are associated with Halloween. Orange represents the harvest, black is associated with death.
  • Black cats were thought to protect witches from negative forces.
  • If you see a spider on this night it could be the spirit of a loved one watching you.
  • Ringing a bell scares evil spirits away

Personally the scariest night of the year would be the night before a driving test, black cats are cute although can look dusty at times, spiders like to come and go but are especially annoying when found in the bath.

Fancy meeting a witch?

Put your clothes on inside out and walk backwards on Halloween…hmmm, enough said!

I live at the edge of a pretty little town at the foot of the Malvern Hills, where days are long and always sunny, my house tidy, cupboards full, and the washing pile non existent...hmm maybe not.
