Whilst the storms and bad weather seem to have eased, widespread flooding is still expected.

Last week, David Cameron announced measures to help families, businesses and farmer who have been affected by the floods:

  1. £5000 "repair and renew" grant topping up money received from insurers
  2. Affected companies will receive 100% business rate relief for 3 months and an extra 3 months to pay their business taxes.
  3. £10 million fund for farmers suffering water-logged fields to help restore land to farmable condition as quickly as possible
  4. £750 million from major banks to provide financial support to business and individual customers affected by the floods
  5. £31 million for 10 rail resilience projects and £30 million for local authorities in England for road maintenance required due to the severe weather
  6. The government also pledged an additional £130 million for critical flood defences.
