Whilst many may have thought it was a sure thing, Conservative supporters across Macclesfield were celebrating today after it was announced their candidate David Rutley secured the seat for another term.
A Tory stronghold since 1918, Macclesfield was seen by many as a sure win for the Conservatives, but strong campaigning both locally and nationally by the Liberal Democrats had seen doubt begin to creep in.
David Rutley took the Macclesfield seat with 23,503 votes, a 47% share of the vote and 11,000 more than that of second place Roger Barlow of the Lib Dems who recieved 11,544.
Adrian Heald of Labour came third at 10,164, with the Independance, UKIP and The Green Party sharing the remainder.
