Sedgley Park v Macclesfield

This weekend Macclesfield travel to Manchester to face local rivals Sedgely Park in what promises to be a thrilling derby match.

It’s been a contrasting season so far for the two teams, Macc are flying high sitting fourth in the league after another five point victory against Tynedale on Saturday, whereas Sedgely are currently sitting fifth from bottom of the league. Their game against Cinderford was one of two that fell foul of the weather last weekend.

When the two teams met earlier in the season it was Sedgley that emerged victorious, when a last minute try from Tom Blackwell secured a 23-21 win for the away side.

Since then it’s been an up and down season  with Sedgley playing twelve games, winning five, and losing seven. Kicker Steven Nutt and winger Alex Hurst will be two players Macclesfield will pay close attention to as they were both integral to their side’s victory at Priory Park.

Director of Rugby Geoff Wappett may have a selection headache ahead of the game, Club Captain Ross Winney made his long awaited return from injury on Saturday, and will be pushing for a starting place in the game against Sedgley. Other than that it should be a relatively unchanged side.

This promises to be a fascinating encounter and Macclesfield will keen to keep this run of good form going and take revenge over their local rivals.
