Macclesfield's Silk Road closed for the next two weeks

Silk Road in Macclesfield will be closed for the next two weeks to allow overhead electricity lines to be replaced.

Starting on Sunday 25th July 2010, the closure will run from the Hibel Road island to the Bollington Road island.

In order to supplement traffic flow, a gyratory system will be introduced on Hibel Road, connecting the roundabouts at Silk Road and Churchill Way.

Cheshire East Council has advised local people who use these routes to expect severe delays for the first few days of closure as commuters become accustomed to the new diversions.

Councillor Rod Menlove commented: "“Whilst road closures are never popular, it is a necessity in this case. The work on the electricity lines is important for the future power supply of Cheshire East."

“A great deal of work has been done to minimise the disruption and I hope people will remain patient over the two week period."

Details of the roadworks, including plans that show the diversion routes, can be found at the Cheshire East website.
