The River Teme and its tributaries contain an abundance of fish species, including chub, barbel, roach, trout, grayling and pike. All waters are very wild and lightly fished, and there are also plenty of local still water pools and fisheries at which day tickets can be bought.

The Teme is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest along its entire length. Its high water quality and its mainly undeveloped banks make the river an excellent habitat for fish. Wildlife is also plentiful, including otters, kingfishers, dippers and other species. The famous angler Andy Orme is a regular fisher on the Teme, and back in the early nineteenth century, Sir Humphrey Davy (pioneer of the miner's lamp) would regularly stay near Ludlow at Leintwardine purely to fish for grayling in the Teme.

The river through Ludlow is at its most picturesque, tumbling over a series of weirs beneath the town on one side, and the steep-sided, tree-covered Whitcliffe on the other, overlooked by the ruined castle and tall church tower. There are free stretches of the river at Bread Walk, Ludford Bridge, Steventon, and between the Dinham and Mill Street weirs.
