A care home in Quorn is embracing the yuletide season by opening its doors for a special reminiscence event.

Care UK’s Lonsdale Mews on Farley Way is inviting people to revisit traditions from Christmas past by joining residents and team members for its event on Friday 5th December 11am-4pm.

The event is part of Care UK’s “Step Into Christmas” initiative, which aims to rekindle Christmas customs that residents remember from their childhood by reliving them and sharing them with the local community.

On the day, guests can enjoy the home’s outdoor barn, which will be given its annual festive makeover. Complete with shopfronts for a sweet shop, toy shop and bakery, the display is designed to look like windows into Christmases gone by.

Adding to the festive cheer, visitors can also enjoy a Christmas Market with stalls selling handmade gifts, crafts and homemade jams, while residents will showcase their own creations. Two miniature donkeys will be making a special appearance between 11am and 12pm, and live music from Charlotte Atherton, a saxophonist, will add to the atmosphere from 2pm. Resident Cedric will take on the role of Father Christmas in the home’s grotto, welcoming nursery children for a magical visit.

Resident Cedric Grainger said: “I am looking forward to the Christmas market and practicing my Santa Claus character as we speak.

"The children are also writing letters to Santa with the nursery nurses, and they will be bringing them along on the day so we can read them together.”

Jo Davison, Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year, and this event allows us to honour the memories from residents’ childhoods, bringing them to life once again.

“This is also a wonderful opportunity to unite the community, celebrate the season and pass on traditions that may otherwise be forgotten.

“We’d like to encourage the local community to join us, together, to celebrate the festive season and bring the memories of Christmas past to Quorn.”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
