A CHOIR will belt out songs in as many as 12 hotels tomorrow in a fundraising piano dash.

The Old Colwyn-based Cor Meibion Choir will visit between 9 and 12 hotels in Llandudno to raise funds for new staging.

Starting at Venue Cymru at 12.30pm the choir will make its way around the town with just a half an hour interval between gigs.

As well as sponsorship forms the choir will be equipped with buckets on the day and will give an otherwise free performance to music lovers.

The piano dash is being organised to raise the £8,500 needed for a new collapsible three-tier stage for the choir’s performances, and a trailer.

The 55-strong choir hopes its sound will be even better once it has the equipment which will allow the voices of the second and back rows to travel further and not bounce off the back of the heads in front.

Hywel Roberts, 42, of Old Colwyn has been a member of the choir for 14 months and is looking forward to the event.

“We’ve about 20 to 30 songs in our repertoire, but we might have a bit of a sore throat on Sunday as we usually sing 16 songs with a break in a concert, so singing 50 in one afternoon is a lot,” he said.

“It is going to be a laugh. Every time we get together we are either rehearsing or in concert, so it’s nice to have to sing properly but we can have a bit of a laugh and a couple of pints.”

The choir is also welcoming new members to join rehearsals every Sunday and Wednesday in Old Colwyn.

“A lot of people say they can’t sing, but they can, it’s a lot to do with confidence,” he said. “My mate said he couldn’t sing, he came along and now he loves it.”

The choir’s schedule will be:

Venue Cymru

County Hotel

Court St Tudno

Cae Mor Hotel

Can-y-Bae

Marine Hotel

Imperial

St George’s Hotel

Grand Hotel.

Other hotels could be added at the last minute.
