Join us for Summer Sounds - a packed programme of music on the bandstand at Strawberry Field. With free music events happening every weekend throughout the summer, Summer Sounds is the perfect family day out. Bring along your picnic blankets and deckchairs, and enjoy music in the garden as John Lennon did as a child.
Live on the bandstand on Sunday 7th July is Liverpool Mozart Orchestra.
The Liverpool Mozart Orchestra is one of the UK’s foremost amateur orchestras. Its members include experienced players from a wide range of occupational backgrounds, many of them professional music teachers and musicians.
Founded in 1951 by Liverpool University graduates David Dutch and Peter Rockliff to recruit the finest amateur players to give high quality performances, the LMO also aims to perform a wide range of repertoire, from baroque to contemporary works, and to provide a platform for soloists, conductors and composers in the early stages of their careers.
Over the decades the LMO has worked with some renowned soloists and conductors, including the orchestra's president Sir Simon Rattle. Its past music directors have included Zubin Mehta, Guy Woolfenden and Mark Heron. The LMO's current chief conductor Robin Wallington began his tenure in the 2023/24 season. The orchestra's main home is The Tung Auditorium but the orchestra also regularly performs choral works in the Metropolitan Cathedral and Liverpool Cathedral.
Doors open from 10am with performances starting at 2pm. Free entry, but donations are welcome and appreciated.
Please note that there is no seating in the garden. Feel free to bring your own chairs and picnic blankets. Food and drink will be available to purchase in the Imagine More café.
