The Writing on the wall festival is underway in Liverpool with many exciting events and activities taking place throughout the City. Already there the Pulp Idol Writing competition heats have taken place.  Last year’s finalist Debbie Morgan was offered a publishing contract with Tindal Street Press and her novel ‘The Vanity Case’ is set to be published in 2012.

On Friday 6 May Brain Reade will be launching his book titles ‘The Epic Swindle: 44 Months with a Pair of Cowboys.  The award winning journalist for the Mirror will be at The Casa on 29 Hope Street from 7pm until late.  It is a free event but there are limited places available to contact WOW on 0151 703 0020 to bool your place.

Rioting on the wall is an all day and night event to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the 1981 Uprising.  The commemoration will be held at the Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre and will showcase artistic and political interpretations of the happenings back in 1981. This will include a photographic exhibition, afternoon coffee with Bonnie Greer, and a discussion on the significance of the riots today with a host of panellists.  The end of the commemoration will be The Rebels Ball starting at 8-m and going on through the night until 2am.

This is just a small taste of what is coming in the days ahead.  The festival is running up until 28 May 2011, so keep your eyes peeled for more exciting dates in the near future.
