Formby the Jewel of the North West Coast!

The attractive, coastal town of Formby is situated in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in North West Merseyside. Formerly a largely residential area, the town is a honey pot for tourism during the summer months with visitors attracted to its stunning, unspoiled sandy beaches and protected wildlife. Adding to the town’s popularity, Formby has the advantage of being in a temperate climate zone with its associated warm summers and mild winters.

Two main areas accommodate visitors. The Lifeboat Road site some 1.5 miles from the main town has parking for 900 vehicles on three sites which lead to a myriad of delightful routes out onto the golden sands and large dunes which are suitable for all the family. To the north of The Lifeboat Road lie the Victoria Road and it’s here where perhaps Formby’s best known attraction is to be found. The Special Areas of Conservation here in the peaceful and tranquil pine forests are home to colonies of rare red squirrels and it’s for this reason that the area remains so popular for the visitor. Parking is available close to the reserve and also serves for adjacent beach access.

Commercially ‘The Village’, as the main shopping area of the town is known, is well served for facilities and amenities. Popular high street stores are located around the original, non-pedestrianised area of Chapel Lane and Brow Lane. Several other small pockets of shops lie handily around the attractive town which also boasts several large supermarkets.

With its proximity to Liverpool, Formby has, and continues to attract, many famous residents, largely from the two Premiership football giants Liverpool and Everton, who view the town as an ideal retreat.

For leisure, Formby boasts access to many first-class golf courses, the jewel in the crown being Royal Birkdale, a home for the prestigious Open Championship.

Formby has remained an unspoiled area due to little major industry in the town. Its American style of street layout features good looking wide-open roads with relatively little congestion.
