I have registered as an Organ Donor, one of quite a few nationally! But it seems that the wishes of these donors may not be honoured by their families when the time comes.
I was genuinely shocked to read this recently, during the recent National Transplant Week! Not only that but the shocking discovery that more people are not on the register!
Sometimes, there is a genuine religous based conviction, that organ donation is wrong. But for the rest of us its just sheer disinterest., and inertia.
There have been calls for the presumption that organs will be donated, unless the individual actually regsiters their intention Not to Donate!
I actually support that, as I am sure that more organ donors would support that! Why not assume that people will always want to save lives? People generally have good intentions after all!
