The work is part of a rolling programme of refurbishments for all five Merseyrail underground stations, including Liverpool Central, James Street, Lime Street, Moorfields and Birkenhead’s Hamilton Square. It is being partly funded by Network Rail and Merseytravel.
It does not affect the mainline station, which will remain open.
The Central line station was refurbished last year and had been closed for 6 months. The refurbishment work on James St is to complete this month. Hamilton Square and Moorfields are not yet scheduled as funding has not been secured, and are expected to start sometime next year.
