La Parrilla, The Old Bank & Lee Martin

With our two young children away on holiday with their Auntie and Uncle, to whom we are etremely grateful,  Helen and I had a rare chance to have a quiet night out on our own during the week.

We have eaten at La Parrilla on a number of occasions and have enjoyed it every time.  So with certainty we knew what we were in for we headed for South Road, Waterloo near Crosby.

Considering it was mid week and with lots of people away on holiday the reataurant was doing pretty well.  We weren't over hungry so we decided on just a main course each.  Helen had the Chimichngas which is a flour tortilla with a filling of your choice, deep fried with a vermouth sauce.  I chose the Enchiladas, which again had a filling of your choice but this time it was a corn tortilla covered with Cheese and baked. This came with a salsa and both our dishes were accompanied with Mexican Rice and Refried Beans.  Both our dishes were excellent and we certainly didn't need any more than the generous portions we received.   This was washed down by their excellent House Wine.  At just over £30 for the lot we certainly had nothing to complain about.

Another reason Helen likes La Parrilla is the cleanliness - the returant and toilets are spotless and a credit to Alex and his team, as of course is the standard of cuisine.  We look forward to our next visit. See their website HERE.

Normally that would have been the end to the evening but with no babysitters to rush home to and with the sounds of live entertainment coming from The Old Bank across the road we decided to have a look.  The real ale in this place is great and with the spicy Mexican flavours in my mouth what better than a pint of the real stuff.

If that wasn't good enough we were treated to one of the best live entertainers I have heard in a long while.  Lee Martin calls himself The Wedding Swinger.  Some of the songs he did from that Golden Age certainly did him proud and the happy smiling faces of the foot tapping people surrounding us certainly echoed that.  Lee also sang some contemporary favourites as well as a few dance songs which all blended in perfectly.  Lee was enjoying himself as much as the audience and was only too happy to take requests.  The state of the art equipment ensured that the tracks requested were instantly to hand.

Have a look at Lee's website HERE and enjoy.

All told a pretty perfect spontaneous night out in Crosby.
