Many city schools in Liverpool are hoping that they will be able to produce the winning signature dish for John Smith’s Grand National Festival.  The schools that create the best signature dishes will have the opportunity to take part in the Liverpool Day Cook-Off which will be held at the Aintree Racecourse.

The dishes will be created by small teams of chiefs from several schools.  It will then be assessed by several judges, including the head chief at Aintree and journalists from across the region.  The winning dish will then be cooked in the kitchens of Aintree and be included on the Liverpool Day menu.  The winner will also be invited to attend Aintree to see the May Race Meeting and see their dish being served to guests.

The competition organisers, Can Cook, are hopeful that the event will help to encourage people to cook more homemade meals and cut down on junk food diets.  The social enterprise are hopeful that poor diets can be avoided by teaching young people to cook properly before they get caught in the trap of eating a poor diet of junk and processed foods.

The Aintree competition is just one way that Can Cook is helping to inspire young chiefs.  This event has been included in their school competition which will result in one team from Liverpool schools being crowned as the Can Cook Schools’ Sessions Winners.
