REDROW apprentice joiner Jenny Prosser has won ‘Highly Commended’ in The Young Builder of the Year Awards 2018.

The 20-year-old from Liverpool was presented with her accolade from Youthbuild UK president John Hayes MP at a special function held at The House of Commons.

Jenny readily admits just to have been shortlisted for the national ‘18 to 24 Year Old Category’ came as both a surprise and delight.

“I had just finished working on one of Redrow’s construction sites in Liverpool when I was told I was being nominated by one of my managers. While I was pleased, I didn’t think anything would come from it,” she added.

“When I found out I had won a Highly Commended award it was a weird feeling, but also very special too.”

Youthbuild UK works with a variety of organisations from the public, private and third sectors to provide training, qualifications and employment, in particular to disadvantaged young people in the construction industry.

Its Young Builder awards have become an eagerly-awaited fixture on the construction industry’s calendar, recognising the achievements of those with exciting potential for the future.

Jenny has spent much of this year working on Redrow’s Dover Meadows development of three and four-bedroom homes in Maghull, combining hands-on experience onsite with ‘classroom-based’ learning indoors at Hugh Baird College.

Her diligence, enthusiasm and natural skill as an apprentice joiner led to the nomination and Jenny’s Redrow site manager Anthony Mason feels the ‘Highly Commended’ accolade was incredibly well-deserved.

“Jenny does not leave any stone unturned in her work and has been a real asset to the Redrow since starting her apprenticeship with us earlier this year,” he said.

A former pupil of Holy Family Catholic High School Thornton, Jenny’s long term aspirations are to become a site manager.

She added: “Redrow have been great to me, very supportive and I’m in the best possible place to develop.”
