Car Parking Charges in Waterloo & Crosby proposed

More Car Parking Charges proposed for Crosby & Waterloo

I cannot believe the logic behind a proposal to have more car parking charges which can only have an adverse effect on local traders and tourism.  How can Sefton Council think this ‘easy buck’ will have a long term benefit to the local community when they stand a good chance of putting some small local traders out of business as a result.  My understanding is that they will generate £32,000 in the first year – I wouldn’t think they will have to put many small traders out of business to have an adverse effect on their business rate income stream.  Perhaps some efficiency savings in their own organisation might be of more help to us all.

The proposal is to introduce car parking charges at Crosby Civic Hall, Crosby Marina, Blucher Street, Crosby Leisure Centre and Burbo Bank with a bonus of 30 mins free at Hougoumont  Avenue Car Park behind South Road.

Paying to park at the Library, Civic Hall, Plaza Cinema (already needing financial help), Leisure Centre, Marina or a stroll on the beach ???

As if the parking wardens aren’t already over zealous enough without the thought of them doubling or tripling their numbers.  I suppose one local landlord could benefit when they have to move to larger premises and vacate the portakabin behind Superdrug – they probably won’t have trouble finding vacant premises.  They will probably shortly out number the shoppers who may see the alternative option of utilising the local retail parks and out of town supermarkets in Litherland, Bootle and Formby ….and it may also soon be a cheaper option to get the bus or train to Liverpool or Southport.

We at thebestofcrosby were already planning a ‘Shop Local’ campaign towards the end of February, this will make us more determined and if this platform can help in any way to stop this ludicrous proposal we will do our best, we live in the community and are passionate about improving it.

Your thoughts would be appreciated and if you think we can be of any assistance in halting this proposal please give us a ring or make a comment.
