Liverpool John Lennon Airport is flying high

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has flown to the top of the table for flight punctuality.

The ‘on time’ performance rating for  the airport used to see it languishing at the foot of the UK list but now it is top with a figure of 91%. The UK average is 78%.

The improvement in performance is just one of the ways airport owners have been striving to enhance the overall customer experience.

And according to newly-installed chief executive Matthew Thomas that’s exactly what is happening. 93% of passengers are through security in 15 minutes and the overall satisfaction rating is 94%.

Majority shareholder Vantage spent £12m improving security and the retail offer. Mr Thomas said: “Post acquisition was all about transforming the quality of the customer experience.”

The aiport is easy to access for travellers around the region and has a car park that was recently commended by the Merseyside Police Safer Parking Scheme.

Being awarded the Park Mark means that the airport has put in place measures which help to deter criminal activity. In addition to an extensive CCTV system, the 8,000 space car park is fitted witht Automatic Number Plate Recognition barrier control equipment.

New facilities also include the Aspire by Servisair Premier Lounge, the sort of place that would previously have been called a VIP area.

The Liverpool lounge is for both business and leisure travellers with the addition of carefully designed tables in the seating areas, which havelaptop, iPad or gaming console charging facilities.

The lounge  can comfortably seat up to 97 passengers - twice as many as the Airport's previous executive lounge.

The main terminal also offers an extensive range of shops and food and drink outlets.

There is also a new service at the Airport aimed at helping passengers navigate their way through the terminal.

LJLA is the latest airport in the UK to feature Google Indoor Maps. This gives users the opportunity to open Google Maps on their Android mobile phone which shows a map of the reminal building floorplan. This application will even show passengers where they are on the map with a familiar blue dot if they have enabled the My Location feature.

Passengers already enjoy a relaxed environment at Liverpool John Lennon Airport with few queues and an easy to get through terminal building. Getting lost at JLA is rare, however this new Google Indoor Map will now also help passengers find their way to many of the new retailers and passenger facilities at the Airport following the recent £12m terminal improvements.

All three levels of the terminal building have been mapped in this way giving practical help too, by indicating the nearest toilets, ATM machines and the Information Desk. The system can even provide directions to show passengers how to get from their current location to where they want to go to - even if they are on a completely different floor.
