DaisyUK; Training and development in Liverpool

Liverpool's award winning Daisy UK (Disability Awareness Introducing Sport to Youngsters) offers the best response to the governments 'Game Plan' by offering disability and visual awareness sports courses for children, staff and volunteers.

Daisy UK was set up to provide disability awareness through education, participation, training and development in sports thereby enabling the barriers of discrimination to be broken down. With the increase of such conditions as obesity, diabetes and heart disease in society today, Daisy UK wished to address these issues by targeting children from a very early age.

Sports programmes are particularly beneficial to children with a disability as they may be more susceptible towards low fitness levels.

This Liverpool based company has a 3- pronged attack for breaking down the barriers for participation of disabled young people in sport, these are: -

Disability and visual awareness through -

  • Sports courses for children and youngsters in schools, colleges and after school clubs
  • Sports courses for staff and volunteers in schools, colleges and other organisations
  • The creation of inclusive sports clubs for young people with a disability

The aim of Daisy UK is to change peoples' pre-conceived beliefs and attitudes towards people with disabilities and to positively promote integration through sport and education.

The services that Daisy UK training and development in Liverpool offers include:

  • Presentations: Disability awareness pathways to organised sport (oral, Powerpoint and OHP
  • Demonstrations: Target sports such as blind football, wheelchair basketball, etc. (All demonstrated by experienced coaches and role-models)
  • Participation: Both disabled and able bodied children will be able to participate together in these sports.

This package can be delivered to any size of group no matter how large or small (although 20 is an ideal number) Included is the presentation that takes approximately 45 minutes, then 75 minutes spent actually focusing on different sports in the sports hall.

Training and development courses can be adapted to suit the requirements of an organisationor business. Due to our excellent standards of quality visual and disability awareness training we have been asked to deliver visual and disability awareness in the work place. This is for relevant organisations and businesses to help long term unemployed and people on incapacity benefit back to work, these courses have been extremely successful in giving the participants the confidence self-esteem and motivation and other key personnel qualities needed to get themselves back into the work place.
