From seven drum kits dating back to 1962, 15 top quality snare drums, more than a dozen guitars and a rare 1970s synthesizer, the rock ‘n’ roll round-up features in Richard Winterton Auctioneers’ online-only Antiques & Home Sale on Monday, March 1, starting at 9.30am.

“What a rare opportunity it is to have such a large collection of musical instrumentation in our Fradley Park saleroom and all from a single collector,” said technology specialist Stuart Hay.

“From the rarest through the usual to unusual amalgamated instruments, they’re all here and ready for some new owners to enjoy.”

Accumulated over 50 years by a professional and then semi-professional drummer, the earliest number is a 1962 Rogers four shell drum kit refinished in Gretsch satin flame in almost immaculate condition.

For John Bonham and Led Zeppelin fans, there is an iconic Ludwig Vistalite with moulded acrylic shells in a vibrant clear blue.

Other drum kits include a Ludwig 400, two Premier kits from the 1960s and 2000, a Mapex Steel Black Panther, Mapex Deep Forest in maple and gold plate and a walnut finish Gretsch stop sign ‘jazz’ kit in almost as-new condition.

Fifteen snare drums feature in the auction, including Rogers Dynasonics, Super Ten and Powertone, plus two sets of Simmons drum synthesizers and a collectable Humes and Berg cymbal case as used by The Specials, complete with tour stencil on the edge.

A rare Logan Electronic Piano String Synthesizer in a teak veneered case is a particularly special vintage addition to the auction.

Made between 1972 and 1983 in Italy, this example’s serial number 9729 identifies it as an early model from the 1970s.

Guitars include an early 1980s Dan Smith era USA Fender Stratocaster Gold on Gold with a gold lacquered body and gold-plated hardware with the rare serial number CA 11522.

“It is a fabulous guitar in amazing condition along with an iconic Tweed Fender case that looks like it has done its job protecting this gem,” added Stuart.

“From the same era and just as unusual is a Gibson Custom Shop XPL Explorer in cream with boxwood edge binding and a very rock ‘n’ roll black stripe design on the top, with black hardware including a Kahler tremolo system and locking nut.”

The sale contains more USA Stratocasters in the form of a 2000 cherry sunburst model with a Seymour Duncan humbucker at the bridge position, complete in a Fender ABS moulded case.

There is also a Jamie Davey handmade black Strat-shaped guitar for metallers, adorned with a Floyd Rose licensed tremolo and locking nut – giving plenty of dive bombing action – kitted out with a pair of EMG humbuckers.

There are also bass guitars including a 2006 USA Fender Precision bass, which looks like it has never been out of its Fender moulded ABS case, still with stickers, warranty and care cards inside.

Hammer prices for the instruments are expected to total £20,000.
