Highlights include a platform bench slat marked Lichfield Trent Valley, signal box lever plates from Lichfield City, a large GWR Platform One sign, station name boards and a LNWR brass bell.

The sale features assorted railway notices, locomotive whistles, cast iron gradient and boundary markers, a collection of cast iron wagon and bridge plates, signal arms, signal box diagrams and an interesting selection of assorted original maps and plans.

Also up for auction are prints from railway carriages, train pictures, meticulously labelled photographs, vintage tickets and a veritable library of books and other printed material.

There is even a selection of hats including a station master’s peaked cap emblazoned with gold braid.

The specialist Railwayana Sale with Richard Winterton Auctioneers takes place at The Lichfield Auction Centre, Wood End Lane, Fradley Park, from 9.30am on Thursday, July 18.

Items can be viewed on Tuesday and Wednesday July 15-17 between 9am-4pm; and on the morning of the sale from 8.30am until the auction starts.

“This is an absolute treasure trove for railway buffs in general and those with an interest in Lichfield’s rail history in particular,” said Mr Winterton.

“There’s a wide selection of items large and small which range from collectables suitable for sitting on a shelf to signage to set off a model railway to items which would make a superb talking point in a garden.”

The Railwayana Sale will arrive towards the end of a busy week for Richard Winterton Auctioneers.

Tuesday (July 16) sees a specialist Coins, Medals & Militaria Sale and on the Wednesday will be the auction of city historian Laura Bowcutt’s comprehensive archive of the pubs of Lichfield and her collection of Lichfield postcards [see attached previous press release photos available on request].

The archive and the coins and militaria can be viewed at The Lichfield Auction Centre on Tuesday July 16th between 9am-4pm and on the morning of the sale from 8.30am.
