Erasmus Darwin was born in 1731 at Elston near Newark. As one of the best polymaths of the 18th Century, he was also very talented in physics, chemistry, geology, metrology and biology.
Having moved to Lichfield in 1756 to work as a physician, he established a medical practice and built up an excellent reputation.
Whilst in Lichfield, Darwin developed his system of evolution, invented many interesting things and wrote long, informative poetry - he was regarded as the leading English Poet of the 1790’s.
Lichfield was also the original location for meetings of The Lunar Society, which he co-founded with Matthew Boulton.
If you are looking for a great venue to hold a meeting, look no further than Erasmus Darwin House. With three meeting rooms perfect for smaller and larger groups, Erasmus Darwin House also provides the conference facilities required to ensure your meeting or function runs smoothly.

Please note that the house is occasionally closed or has restricted access for private events. Please check before your visit for notices of closures.
Access to the museum is by pre booked ticket only and they are limiting this to a maximum of 6 members from one household (inc those in your bubble), at any one time. Unfortunately, they have made the difficult decison to introduce a temporary admission charge of £5 per person and a minimum group size of 2. Face coverings must be worn in the museum at all times.

Erasmus Darwin House also has an exciting, stimulating programme for schools - visit the website to find out more – http://www.erasmusdarwin.org/
