A care home in Lewes is welcoming the community for an un-fur-gettable day. Care UK’s Claydon House, on Wallands Crescent, is preparing to welcome the community and their furry friends on Wednesday 26th August, from 10:30am, for its annual Claydon Crufts.

Visitors to the home are encouraged to bring along their dogs to compete in the paw-tastic competition, with a donation of £1 required per category entered. All proceeds will be donated to Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare – a local animal shelter based in Lewes.

A panel of residents and relatives will be judging entries to find Claydon's next canine superstar, with awards up for grabs in a range of fun categories including waggiest tail, best trick, puppy eyes, fluffiest dog, most distinguished, best in show, best on the dog walk and the coveted manager's favourite.

Treats will be available for humans and pooches alike, as guests can expect a fur-tastic day to celebrate everyone’s favourite four-legged friends.

Joan Steeples, a resident at Claydon House, said: “I like seeing all the dogs having fun in the garden and how happy everyone is.”

Lesley Andrew, Home Manager at Claydon House, said: “Our annual dog show is one of our most anticipated events every year, as it’s a very popular event amongst residents, relatives and team members.

“Many residents at Claydon House have fond memories of childhood furry friends and relish the opportunity to share wonderful stories about them. Our dog show is always a hotly contested competition, with the community getting involved and vying for best in show.

" Events like this are incredibly important because they bring people of all ages together and create meaningful connections within our community. We are looking forward to welcoming lots of su-paw-stars into the home!”

Claydon House provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
