The outstanding efforts of 13 organisations and individuals were recognised at a special awards ceremony at King's Lynn Corn Exchange on 24 April 2012.

The Opportunity Awards a designed to celebrate the work that people in the community do to ensure that disability is not a barrier.

Borough Mayor, Cllr Colin Sampson, presenting the awards on behalf of the West Norfolk Disability Forum, said: "We had a good audience and the various winners really appreciated their recognition for services rendered. I know quite a few well from meeting them in other places and would like to thank them for the work that they do. They really enjoyed the whole evening and so did I."

Cllr David Harwood, Chairman of the West Norfolk Disability Forum, added: "These awards have always been a great way to celebrate the efforts of those people that work tirelessly to improve life for those with disabilities. Without these awards, the inspirational stories of so many of our unsung heroes would be unheard and we would not have the opportunity to thank them for their efforts."

Amongst the winners were Sylvia Pomeroy, who won the Mayor's Award, Phobbies, who won the Gold Award in the Voluntary Organisation category, Barry Langley who won the Gold Award in the Service Provider category, Jackie Murphy of Aspires who won the Gold Award in the Employer category, Jennifer Purple, who won the Individual Gold Award for Volunteering and helping others, Lavender Hill Mob, who won the Group Gold Award for Volunteering and helping others and the Fundraising Team at BMI Sandringham, who won the Gold Award for Charity Work

Silver Awards went to Sing Your Heart Out West, Shelly Ross, Involve and Andrew Stephenson, with Bronze Awards going to WVS and Linda Howe.
