Cycle routes through Islington

As my last blog was about parking I thought it would be good to give you some info on cycling in the borough. So as many of you know while many say that cycling is promoted around London I find that the actual infrastructure isn't always up to much. You'll know what I mean if you try to cycle through Kings Cross a notorious crossing that has taken the lives of cyclists in the past.

Luckily it's not all as bad as there though. Islington has some Boris bikes in the borough but only as far north as Angel really with the dock outside the N1 Centre Angel been the furthest north.

There are 4 main routes through Islington for cyclists.

1. Finsbury Park to Kings Cross, uses main roads

2. Cannonbury to Clerkenwell, uses side and secondary roads

3. Hankney to Camden, uses the canal and streets around Angel

4. Camden Road to Old Street, uses a combination of main roads and quieter roads

Follow this link to get information on all the routes mentioned above http://www.inklondon.net/docs/CyclingGuide.pdf

Also another great resource for cyclists in the borough is The Islington Cyclists Action Group http://www.icag.org.uk/

The council also has info for cyclists on their website here http://www.islington.gov.uk/islington/walking-cycling/cycling/Pages/default.aspx

I'l do another piece on the bike shops in the area in the near future.
