On Thursday 8th May, Care UK’s Prince George House, on Mansbrook Boulevard, are welcoming local people to honour the 80th anniversary of VE Day with their very own 1940s-themed parties.
VE Day was celebrated on 8th May 1945, after Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end. This emotional news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.
At Prince George House, a garden party will be hosted from 3pm-5pm, and there will be live entertainment to get toes tapping beneath the bunting, while guests will also be able to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea.
Luminita Tiff, Home Manager at Prince George House, added: “This milestone holds great significance for many of our residents, and we are eager to honour all those who were involved.
“Reminiscence activities are a great way for older people, especially those living with dementia, to connect with those around them and help maintain a sense of identity. In the run up to our VE Day celebration, residents have been sharing their own stories and memories of the poignant event, and it’s been fantastic to hear everyone’s experiences and learn from one another.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming new and old faces into Prince George House, and excited to have a live entertainer join us to get everyone up and dancing as we mark such a significant moment in history.”
