On Thursday 6th August from 2.30–4.30pm, Care UK’s Cedrus House will open its doors to families and neighbours for a free food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Bittern Crescent home can look forward to a vibrant celebration of food and culture, with tasting stations showcasing the favourite international cuisines of residents and team members, including biryani, chicken mandi, halwa, traditional South African milk tarts, fish and chips, Victoria sponge cake and many more.
Guests will also be able to enjoy live entertainment from duo Caprice. The event will celebrate the diverse cultures within the home while bringing everyone together for an afternoon of good food, music and community spirit.
Resident Keith Easter said: “I am very much looking forward to the event as I have fond memories of my mother’s roast dinners as a child, followed by apples with custard – this is still one of my favourites today.”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will offer sustainable, community-focused activities while championing the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
