Keeping Your Marketing Plans on Track

Marketing plans (together with business plans) need regular review to help you keep your business on track and achieve your objectives and this can be the perfect time to review your strategy.  If your marketing strategy is currently in your head, then this is a good time to formalise it into a plan and action.


So when did you last look at your marketing plan or perhaps you don’t have one yet?  Either way, you may want to consider the following;

  • Has your business changed or evolved since your last review or starting up?
  • What has happened in your marketplace – do you need to update your research?
  • What are your competitors doing?
  • What is profitable, and what is not and what marketing methods have worked in the past, or not?
  • What do your customers or clients think of your service?
  • Have your customers or clients changed their buying habits and how can you adapt?
  • Can you cross sell other products or services to existing customers or clients?
  • Do you have a niche that you want to promote?
  • How can you increase your customer or client base and promote repeat business?


These are just some of the things you may want to consider as part of a review.


Marketing is not just about advertising or sales promotion; it is the process by which a business decides what it will sell, to whom, when and how, and then carrying that through.  It does not always mean a significant financial investment as there are often ways you can promote your business without incurring high costs.  What is important is to understand what you are trying to achieve in promoting and developing your business and having an action plan to make it happen.
