This month's meeting of the Bucks Pottery and Sculpture Society will be the first of our summer afternoon meetings and will include a making session hosted by long-time member Paula Sutton.
Paula will lead attendees in making 'plant pets ' - small ceramic figurines that can be sat in empty spaces in your Indoor plant pots. She coined the name plant pets after the 'tea pets' used in Chinese tea ceremony rituals - small low-fired clay figures that are used as decoration on their tea trays. They often have the remaining tea poured over them which gets absorbed and, over time, adds a patina to the surface.
The instructions for the figures that we will be making came from an American YouTuber - search MathildaTanner6612 and click View Channel to see her 10 minute sculpture tutorials.
It would help if attendees could bring a cloth to work on, a rolling pin (a small patterned one would be ideal), lace or netting to create texture, basic modelling tools, and a box to take your creations home in. Clay will be provided and there will be some additional tools available for those who don't have their own.
The meeting will be held at Little Kingshill Village Hall, Windsor Lane, Little Kingshill on Friday 31st July from 2-4pm. Entry is free for BPSS members, £5 for visitors. For information about the Society see our website www.buckspotters.com - we are also on Facebook and Instagram.
