Join us for a trip to West Wycombe Estate’s Butler’s Hangings SSSI. Overlooking Slough Bottom, in the heart of the Chilterns, it is an area of steep chalk downland below beech woodland. Unfortunately, part of the walk has a very steep slope and is therefore and is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.
After meeting at the NT car park, we will walk through the woods, along the top of the ridge, until we arrive at Butler’s Hangings. Here we will look for a variety of summer butterflies and other wildlife. Target species: Marbled White and, hopefully, Dark Green Fritillary.
Accessibility & risks: steep and rough ground in places. A walk of about 4 km in total. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
Please check here the evening before the walk to make sure it is going ahead as planned. This page will be updated regularly.
Meet at the south end of the National Trust car park on the top of West Wycombe Hill. Please note that it is not possible to park on the road directly below Butler’s Hangings.
