The Wright family has been providing a funeral service in Great Missenden and the surrounding areas for four generations. Wright Funeral Services, formerly Great Missenden Funeral Services, was established by Philip Wright in 1994 shortly after which he acquired the former funeral business of H J & A Wright Ltd which he incorporated into Wright Funeral Services. The Company has records of funerals going back over 90 years. Philip Wright has been associated with the funeral profession most of his working life. He holds a Diploma in Funeral Directing and although now recently retired he still retains a consultancy role within the company. It was in the late 1890’s that Henry J Wright came to Great Missenden from New Mill, Tring, to work on the restoration of the Parish Church and the building of the front porch and boiler house at the Church. Following the completion of this work he remained in Great Missenden setting up in business in 1900 or 1901 as a general builder, working from premises in Church Street. Early records show that in 1902 he was already working as a builder and decorator, sanitary engineer and undertaker, or funeral furnisher. Henry, or Harry as he was known, was soon joined by his brother Arthur, some fifteen years his junior. Together they traded as H J & A Wright and in 1921 the business was incorporated into a Limited Company.
