Haverhill Research Park is sponsoring the £500 solo Piano Award prize in the 2014 Deena Shypitka Music Awards, hosted by the Haverhill Sinfonia.

Selections will be based upon audio recordings, video, and documentation. The competition is open to classical musicians under 28 years old that are studying on postgraduate (performance) courses in 2014-2015. These musicians can be of any nationality studying in the UK or abroad.

Nic Rumsey, development director of Carisbrooke Investments at HRP says, “We are thrilled to be able to continue our support of this competition which promotes musical excellence in young adults. We strongly believe that the competition exemplifies our town’s dedication to creating a rich cultural, as well as business community. We wish each musician the very best in their performances.”

Kevin Hill of the Haverhill Sinfonia says, “We are grateful for Haverhill Research Park’s continued support of our programme and especially thankful this year as we honour the memory of Deena Shypitka.”

Deena Shypitka was involved with Haverhill Sinfonia since it started in 1986, holding various posts and becoming administrator and organiser. She died in 2013 at the age of 70.

Haverhill Sinfonia held soloist competitions between 1990 and 2012 to provide a public platform for talent which might otherwise go unheard, and to give young musicians the experience of solo performing. These new awards in memory of Deena Shypitka are a natural progression supporting exciting young talent.
