The news is filled with stories about flooding and incessant rain. It looks as if the only way Haverhill will enjoy a white Christmas is if the rain water lifts the town and floats us to the North Pole!

Still, no use crying about it (unless you want the water to rise further with tears); come rain or shine, there is plenty of festive treats in store this weekend across Haverhill.

From Saturday 22nd until Monday 24th December, and then December 26th and 27th, That's Entertainment Productions will be delighting young and old alike at Haverhill Arts Centre with its production of Dick Whittington and his Amazing Cat.

Pantomime tickets range from £11 to £36.

If you're already starting to worry about how to keep the children amused over the Christmas holidays, why not take them along to the Children's Christmas Drop-in Workshop at East Town Park this Saturday or Sunday?

From 10am until 3pm, kids will be making reindeer food in readiness for Rudolph, as well as festive cones for the Christmas tree. Reindeer food costs £1.50 per child; cone £1; there is no need to book – simply pop along if you have a free hour or two.

We all know how busy Father Christmas is going to be on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but he's still made time to visit Ickworth House, The Rotunda in Horringer between 11am and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday for a Family Christmas Twinkle. Sit around the fire, hear about Santa's past, enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a snack in the restaurant, follow the Christmas trail and much more.

Santa will also be flying across to Cheeky Chimps Funhouse in Haverhill, along with his helpers and Bernaise the Mountain Dog. Times are as follows: Saturday, Sunday between 11:30am – 12:15pm and 1:30pm – 2pm, and Christmas Eve between 11am – 11:45am.

Something a little different for the adults... after all, these crafts and Father Christmas are great fun for the kids but sometimes only live music and a few cheeky drinks will do! Start the festive celebrations on Saturday 22nd from 7:30pm by going to the Oshmas Party at The Greyhound in Wickhambrook.

Local band, LIQUID COSH will be playing from 8:30pm.

Socialising with friends and family is second nature to lots of us over the Christmas holidays, but there are many people in and around Haverhill alone over the festive season and need Companionship over Christmas. Abbeyfield, Half Moon House on the High Street, Clare, invites over 55's who live independently to spend time with them over the holidays, whether for a meal or overnight stay, between Christmas Eve and Friday January 4th 2013.
