The North West London Chamber of Commerce (NWLCC) has taken on the role
of trying to co-ordinate all the traders/business groups in the London Borough of Harrow to help improve trading opportunities in the borough.

Although most trade associations are retail related, the NWLCC is encouraging them to bring in professional organisations and smaller one or two person companies, to help expand trade.

At a meeting held on 29 May chaired by Eric Diamond, Vice President of the NWLCC, an offer was made to each of the traders/business groups to affiliate to the NWLCC whilst encouraging their individual members to become members of the NWLCC to receive the full benefits that the NWLCC can offer them.

Over recent months, new traders have taken over current retail and commercial throughout the borough, but problems have arisen concerning competition, change of use etc.  With this in mind, Harrow Council and the NWLCC will endeavour to set up a tool kit which will list several specialists in each area regarding change of use, health and safety, environmental and other matters which cause difficulty when starting to trade within the borough.

Harrow Council, through its officers and local councillors, have worked very hard to encourage the traders associations to work together but the NWLCC is now offering to ensure that one of its directors attends each and every traders associations meeting and, if invited, would speak to the associations.

It is important that with the development of new skills and employment rights, training should be encouraged and the recipients of this letter are reminded of the services offered by Harrow In Business, the enterprise company for this area.

This is an opportunity for local businesses to work collectively with Councillors and Officers to develop action plans that are tailored for their town centre.  Actions could include markets, seasonal events (Christmas, Diwali, Eid).  The NWLCC, businesses and the Council can then work together to help deliver the action plan through the identification of funding and bringing relevant partners together.

Brent and Harrow Chamber of Commerce and NWLCC are also heavily involved in the Brent community and trade associations and a similar programme is being established for Brent.
