On Saturday 8th August from 2:30 pm, Care UK’s Harcourt Gardens will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Harcourt Road home can look forward to a 1950s-themed food festival, brought to life with 1950s-themed traditional outfits, recycled paper mache lanterns and bunting created by residents. Guests will be able to enjoy an array of street food dishes from around the world, inspired by residents’ favorite dishes and cultural backgrounds, all prepared by the home’s Head Chef, Justin Bishop.
There will also be a two-hour interactive reptile show followed by a tombola, raffle and hook a duck games, promising an afternoon full of fun and flavour.
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Daniel Cole, Home Manager at Harcourt Gardens, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!
“We are part of a strong community here in Harrogate, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.
“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
