Stockeld Park launches weatherproof outdoor ice rink

As the forecast into December looks to be rain interspersed by spells of downpours, one of Yorkshire’s leading Christmas destinations has launched a new weatherproof ice rink in readiness for the festive season.

Billed as one of the only outdoor covered rinks in the country, Stockeld Park’s new 630 square meter ice rink enables skaters to keep warm and dry whilst simultaneously offering open-air views across the parkland to the estate’s stunning Enchanted Forest.

The forest, which is filled with thousands of lights, fairytale creatures and sound effects, runs through almost a mile of historic woodland, offering the visitors the chance to either walk round or be put through their paces on the longest synthetic Nordic Ski trail in Europe.

Speaking at the launch of the new ice rink, Stockeld Park General Manager Alexia Rushton-Earl said the rink was a potential game changer for the famous Adventure Park.

“The weather at Christmas is always temperamental, and nowhere more so than here in Yorkshire, and that has always been a challenge for outdoor ice rinks.

“Our ice rink was always quite magical, because visitors didn’t just come to enjoy the fabulous skating; they were also treated to the beautiful views of our surrounding parkland, which you just can’t get with an indoor rink.

“What we have managed to achieve with this new rink is a really special combination between the two, with the rink being both covered from the elements, but also open along one side to ensure skaters can enjoy the same spectacular views they always have.”

Stockeld Park’s new ice rink is open every day from now up until the 7th January 2019, excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
