Do you know what Dry January is?

It’s now an  official event, an annual campaign, promoted by Alcohol Concern, to challenge people to give up alcohol for all of January.  For some this might be something you will look forward to due to a hangover after New Year’s Eve.  For others it’s not of interest.  However, there are several great benefits to taking up the challenge.

  • Weight loss, do you know how many calories are in alcohol?

  • Better sleep, more energy, and the ability to concentrate

  • More money in your pocket, post Christmas, this may be essential.

  • Reduced blood glucose and cholesterol levels, according to a study by the Royal Free Hospital in London.

Excess alcohol can cause heart disease, liver disease, depression, dementia, diabetes and cancer. Drink in moderation. The official recommended limit is about 14 units a week.

If  this is something you are planning on challenging yourself to either sign up on one of the websites or just do it yourself, why not get some of your friends and colleagues involved too?  Make it into a competition and raise money for worthy causes like cancer research or whatever charity you support.

You might realize how much fun you can have on a night without having to consume so much alcohol.
