Rock up and Sing! is an award-winning Registered Charity (No 1152453) and family of 4 adult choirs with around 400 members, a talented Special Events choir, and an energetic Youth Choir (aged 12-18). Based in Harrogate and Skipton, North Yorkshire, the Rock Up choirs are for everyone who loves to sing, but who dislikes the exclusivity that often comes with formal music groups.
Founded in 2009 by Musical Director Rhiannon Gayle, her infectious enthusiasm, energy and incredible talent, coaches the choir members into producing sell-out performances, supporting numerous charities along the way. With a huge repertoire that focuses on some of the greatest Rock, Pop and Gospel songs with some stunning a cappella pieces, Rock Up and Sing! not only provides entertainment, fund-raising and support in the Yorkshire community, but confidence, friendship and exciting opportunities for all its members.
These have included recording the Yorkshire Anthem ‘Ilka Moor Bah’t At’ with Brian Blessed and Lesley Garrett, performing in New York with award-winning conductor Christopher Tin, and in their own sell-out concert at the Rudolfinum in Prague. Rock Up and Sing! have also produced their own CD, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London, and performed at the VIP Gala Evening for the world famed Tour de France in Yorkshire. The Event choir were also chosen to perform at the World Wedding Record for the most bridesmaids and ushers at one wedding, as well as performing at many corporate events and private weddings.
With Rock Up and Sing! there is no auditioning, no need to be able to read music, and no previous experience necessary – just a passion for singing. Rehearsals take place at Skipton High School on Monday evenings, and at their own studio in Claro Court Business Centre, Harrogate on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. All the choirs can be seen regularly taking part in events and concerts and are available to hire individually or en-masse.
