On Friday 7th August from 2pm–4pm, Care UK’s St. Vincent’s House will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Queen Caroline Streethome can look forward to celebrating the flavours and traditions that make dining so special there, enjoying a variety of delicious, resident-led meals and themed dining experiences inspired by their backgrounds, including Italian, Jamaican, Chinese, Filipino, African, and Nepalese.
Guests can also tap their feet away to live entertainment from music from around the world.
Resident K. M., 80, said: "I am excited about our upcoming food festival. I can't wait to see all the delicious food from different cultures and try dishes that I have never tasted before. It will be lovely to learn about different traditions and hear the stories behind the food.
“I can't wait to see all the beautiful decorations and enjoy the warm, colourful atmosphere. I know the home will look amazing, and I'm looking forward to spending the day with everyone. I think it will be a wonderful celebration of food, culture, friendship, and togetherness.”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which willseeCare UK homes across the countryhost foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Kerry Reyes, Home Manager at St. Vincent’s House, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!
“We are part of a strong community here in Hammersmith, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.
“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
