The Ritz Cinema is an independent cinema in Thirsk, run entirely by volunteers.

The Ritz first opened to the public in 1912, making it one of the oldest continuous run cinemas in the UK.

Since 1995 the cinema has been run by a dedicated team of volunteers who aim to bring recent film releases to our rural area at reasonable prices. We hope you enjoy your experiences at The Ritz and look forward to welcoming you back.

In recent years, the determination of our volunteers and the support of the local community has enabled us to carry out many improvements including the installation of a new screen, better seating, Dolby SR surround sound and improved décor.

The Ritz is constantly looking forward and is proud to continue the tradition of cinema in Hambleton and North Yorkshire. As a volunteer run cinema, we are sure your experience with us will be different to that of the faceless multiplexes – hopefully in a positive way !

All tickets are sold on the day for each performance – NO PRE-BOOKING AVAILABLE

The Ritz is also available for private hire, birthday parties and meetings
