SONNET WALK WEEKEND VIII 27 & 28 April
Our ever-popular Sonnet Walks return for another magical mystery walking-tour where you’ll encounter Shakespeare and his characters in the least likely of places.
Previous venues have included West Horsley Place, Stoke Park, and River Wey Navigations, as well a plethora of sites all over Guildford Town Centre. The walk and all details are still under wraps, but you can be confident this will be an experience not to miss! THIS YEAR WE'LL BE BACK IN THE TOWN CENTRE... but the route won't be revealed until the day!
Dates: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 April
Times: There are 14 walks each day, starting at NOON - each walk lasts approx. 60 mins and are every 15 minutes. (no walk at 13:45)
Venue: HOLY TRINITY CHURCH - all walks will start here. The end point will be in the town centre, but not revealed until nearer the time.
KING JOHN - STAGED READING
King John is probably most famous as the king who signed the Magna Carta, but surprisingly such a huge event doesn't feature in Shakespeare's 1596 play, The Life and Death of King John. Instead there's dynastic squabbles over inheritance, illegitimacy and even infanticide. Lavish weddings, poisonings, papal excommunication and war with France all take centre stage, along with the fascinating character of 'The Bastard', in this rarely performed history play. Directed by Ant Stones, our Head of Education and Associate Playwright, who directed last year's brilliant The Two Noble Kinsmen.
Date: Wednesday 24 April
Venue: St Nicolas Church, Bury Street, Guildford, GU2 4AW
LOVE & WONDER... the GSC Young Company presents
They're back! Our flagship youth theatre, the GSC YOUNG COMPANY present their annual public performance.
Devised, written and performed by our group of 12 – 16 year old aspiring actors, the performance is based on the three the plays GSC staged in 2018, Romeo & Juliet, Love's Labour's Lost and Alice in Wonderland!
The company have been working on the play since September, which cleverly intertwines story lines from all three plays, and includes new characters inspired by the originals.
Dates: Sunday 14 & Monday 15 April
Venue: St Mary’s Church, Quarry Street, Guildford, GU1 3UA
