With festival season officially under way, a care home in Haslemere is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.
On Thursday 6th August from 1.30pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Chestnut View will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.   Visitors to the Lion Green home can look forward to an international barbecue, where residents, families and team members will come together to celebrate the flavours, traditions and cultures that make dining so special in the home. Guests can enjoy a selection of delicious dishes, including flavours from around the world.   Ann Samson, a resident at Chestnut View, said: “My favourite childhood food was boiled eggs and soldiers! I’ve travelled to a lot of different countries and I love the flavours of Chinese, Japanese and Indian food. My favourite dishes are salmon en croute and fish pie. I think this event will be a lot of fun!”   The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.   Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.   Wendy Gibbs, Home Manager at Chestnut View, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!   “We are part of a strong community here in Haslemere, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.   “The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”   To find out more about A Taste of Home, please visit: careuk.com/a-taste-of-home.   Chestnut View, operated by Care UK, is a care home that provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
