Mencap Is a charitable organisation who fights for equal rights, challenges attitudes and prejudice and campaigns for greater opportunities with regard to learning disabilities. They also provide an invaluable service, support and advice to meet people's needs throughout their lives
They are an individual membership charitable organisation with a local network and the North East base is run from their office on the Team Valley in Gateshead

They also offer information and advice and are proactive campaigners for people with learning disabilities
As with all charities, there is a great need to raise money through fundraising and donations, to continue their vital work. Every penny donated or raised in the North East by Mencap, stays in the North East and the funds are used for the continuing support of the 52,000 people living with a learning disability in the region
