The Speech House Hotel.

Real history, real character, modern comforts and really good food!

We like the Speech House Hotel, and if you like your hotels with a bit of character, we think you'll like it too. Just thnk of those King Charles II, giant four-poster beds and rooms with views over many of the 20 million trees in the surrounding Forest of Dean, well you get the picture..

Location

All around the hotel you have the spectacular scenery of the Forest of Dean - perhaps England's most romantic wilderness, with rare birds, wild boar and even the occasional polecat.

Carpeted with bluebells in May and ablaze with spectacular colours in autumn, the Forest of Dean includes the Wye, one of the country's most unspoilt rivers together with hundreds of miles of off-road cycling, walking trails and riding paths.

Modern comforts, historic style

Built in 1676 as a hunting lodge for Charles ll, the hotel retains much of its original charm. Tasteful refurbishment has brought modern facilities and comforts - especially welcome after a day exploring.

The hotel has 37 rooms, with accommodation ranging from single rooms to luxurious suites. Whether you're staying overnight or longer, you'll find the rooms well-appointed and comfortable, although with so much to enjoy all around, you may not spend too much time in your room.

Delicious food and drink

You have a choice of two restaurants and a bar. The Verderer's Court Restaurant occupies the 17th century court room where the speeches were made (hence the name of the hotel). Today it provides a characterful setting for dinner and celebrations.

The more intimate Freeminers Restaurant is perfect for informal meals and snacks. Both the hotel restaurants are under the personal guidance of the Head Chef.

History, style and great food in the unspoilt Forest of Dean - it's a combination that's hard to resist. For a real break, delicious food and wine and comfortable overnight accommodation in rooms or suites -- you can't beat the Speech House Hotel.
