Hart SC Channel Challenge Charity Swim
18th July 2017
... Comments

On Sunday 6th August 2017 two teams, of three swimmers, from Hart Swimming Club will each attempt to swim 33.8 kilometres, the width of the English Channel.

They will attempt to complete the challenge at Hart Leisure Centre, starting at 7am.

The swimmers are Maya Farmer (12), Ben Walton (13), Sarah Hiley (16), Stephanie Roberts (16), Josh Montgomery (19) and Karen Roberts (22).

Our thanks to Everyone Active for donating the pool space for this charity event.

Each team aim to complete the challenge in 8 - 10 hours of continuous swimming, taking turns to swim 1km at a time, starting at the ‘cardboard cliffs of Dover’ and finishing in a ‘virtual’ France!

We are raising money for two different charities both working in areas important to members of the club…

Cancer Research UK, who undertake major research projects into beating cancer.

Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), who provide heart screening for young people, especially important for those involved in sports, to determine if they have an underlying condition. They perform research, aim to raise awareness and provide support to families following a young sudden cardiac death. Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With support, CRY can reduce the frequency of this occurrence.

To donate please go to www.justgiving.com/teams/HartSC-ChannelChallenge

You can also donate by text.

For Cancer Research UK, Text HCAN99 £5 to 70070

For Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), Text HCRY99 £5 to 70070

Though you can choose to donate to either charity, the swimmer’s choice would be for donations to be split equally between the two good causes.

Come and support the swimmers, watch their progress, and hope to see the odd ferry, oil tanker or seagull flying past!!

During the swim there will be a ‘swimming themed’ quiz and a competition to “guess the time of completion” for both teams.
